Lund University
Vascular Wall International Postdoctoral Program

Lund University is Scandinavia’s largest institution of education and research (www.lu.se). The faculty of Medicine comprises 6 departments situated in the cities of Lund and Malmö and collaborating on clinical education and research with the two major university hospitals there. The faculty has over 800 researchers primarily working in the recently constructed Biomedical Center (BMC) in Lund and Clinical Research Center (CRC) in Malmö (www.med.lu.se).

The Vascular Wall Program is one out of seven multidisciplinary and translational research initiatives prioritized by the Medical faculty following extensive external review. It brings together a number of research groups studying various aspects of vascular biology and disease to facilitate joint research initiatives and to promote interaction between experimental and clinical research (www.med.lu.se/vascularwall).

The Vascular Wall program is offering seven 2-year postdoctoral fellowships:

Role of TRP channels in vascular repair

Role of the vitamin K-dependent protein Gas6 on endothelial cell angiogenesis and anti-apoptosis

Glucose homeostasis and transcapillary lipoprotein transport in the absence of endothelial caveolae

Characterization of the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex in atherosclerosis and restenosis

Immune responses regulating the vascular response to injury

Apolipoprotein B-100 antibodies and cardiovascular disease

Leukocyte recruitment in the aorta and femoral artery in vivo during hyperlipidemia

The program aims to stimulate the international recruitment of postdocs and will provide training and career development for postdoctoral scientists who have either recently completed doctoral studies or a first postdoctoral training period. Each fellow will be provided a personal mentor and an individualized training program. For more detailed information of projects and principal investigators see www.med.lu.se/vascularwall.

Applications including CV, list of publications, references and a one page letter stating reasons for wanting to join the Vascular Wall Postdoctoral Program should be sent electronically to jan.nilsson@med.lu.se by June 15 2006.
