Pharmacy Projects
Benchmarking
Following the inaugural meeting of U21 Pharmacy members in Brisbane in 2004, a comprehensive data gathering exercise was conducted to ascertain the major features of individual programmes, and as a means of identifying opportunities for sharing and collaboration. Key areas for follow up included practice standards, scope of practice, accreditation standards, and regulatory/licensing environments. A range of quantitative information was sought as a preliminary step towards a major benchmarking exercise. At the 2007 meeting in Hong Kong, members' agreed that benchmarking would be an ongoing development.

'Visualizing Issues in Pharmacy' (VIP) Project
The 'Visualizing Issues in Pharmacy' (VIP) project involves a collaboration between the College of Fine Arts, at the University of New South Wales, and the School of Pharmacy at the University of Auckland. The project brings together pharmacy students and design students, with project convenors, teachers and special guests worldwide, to work collaboratively within a fully online learning environment, to produce visual campaigns that can actively contribute to increased public awareness of a range of health-related concerns, in specified locations in Kenya. The project ultimately aims to increase public awareness of six health-related concerns identified as debilitating public health in many developing nations: adherence, malaria, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infections, chronic disease, and immunization. Materials produced are now being refined for trial in Winam, Kenya. Sponsorship is being sought for producing the materials as part of a pilot study prior to any full-scale manufacture and distribution. Three pharmacy students will travel to Winam in May 2008 to ascertain the impact of the materials in this first phase of the project.
